While recruiting has seemed to calm down for Kalani Sitake and company, BYU still has plenty to be excited about on the recruiting front from their current group of commitments.  Perhaps none are having a more exciting and impactful prep season than Olympus’s star linebacker and running back Ben Bywater.  Bywater is a 6-foot-3 210 pound outside linebacker and running back who committed over the summer to play for the Cougars (Class of 2017).

Bywater preps at Olympus High School, where he rushed 133 times for 766 yards and nine touchdowns and caught 10 passes for 77 yards.  On defense he had 95 tackles (21 solo) with 10 tackles for loss, two passes defended, one forced fumble, and one sack. As a junior (2017) he recorded 18 tackles and three tackles for loss in just six games as he missed the rest of the season with a lacerate kidney. He was named to the All-State first team (4A) by the Deseret News and USA Today, and the Region 6 MVP (voted by the coaches).

Bywater is rated 3-stars by Scout, who listed him as the No. 1 outside linebacker in Utah and No. 3 in the west.  He is also rated 3-stars on Rivals. Bywater held scholarship offers from Air Force, BYU, Cornell, Fresno State, and Utah State.  He has also been recruited by Arizona State, Harvard, Hawaii, Navy, Nevada, Stanford, UNLV, Utah, Washington, and Washington State.
