Lee is a 5-foot-11 203 pound safety who may play wide receiver for the Cougars.  He originally signed with Utah (2012) and then served an LDS mission in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  He played for the Utes last season recording four tackles on special teams.  Because he left the Utes before the season started he should be eligible to suit up for the Cougars as early as next fall (2017) with three years of eligibility.

lee_austin_150pxLee prepped at Alta High School (UT), where he in three seasons he recorded three touchdowns, 187 total tackles, two sacks, six interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumbles recovered, and 33 pass breakups.  As a junior he also completed 5-of-8 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown, and caught nine passes for 154 yards (17.1 avg) and two more scores.  Was named to the All-State first team in 2010 and 2011.

Lee was rated 3-stars by Rivals, Scout, and ESPN (grade of 76). He was rated the No. 1 safety the No. 6 player in Utah in any position.  He was offered scholarships from Utah and Utah State, and had recruitment interest from Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Oregon State, SDSU, Stanford, UNLV, and Washington State.

Lee’s father played baseball at Utah in the early 1980s and his grandfather played football for the Utes from 1959-61.  Kalani Sitake was one of the coaches that recruited him to Utah, and Alta teammate Rhett Sandlin plays for BYU.
