Update: on July 31, 2015 Tu’ungfasi (@M_Tee05) tweeted out:
“I would like to announce I will not be attending BYU for the 2015 season and I will not be attending Snow College.”
His status in regards to BYU enrollment is currently unknown.
Tongan rugby player Manase Tu’ungafasi was a late entry into the BYU football Class of 2015, signing his National Letter of Intent to play for the Cougars on May 22, 2015, several months after signing day. BYU faithful hope that he’s another diamond in the rough as a relatively unknown rugby player from New Zealand. His 6’7”, 320 pound frame make him an intriguing offensive line prospect but with no experience on the football field he will likely not see any action until at least 2016. He is the sixth offensive line prospect in the 2015 class and will join the cougars for fall camp. Tu’ungafasi was recruited by BYU, Utah, and Oregon State.

While Tu-ungafasi has zero experience as a football player, he is an accomplished rugby player. He participated with the 2014 Samoa Under-20 team in the Junior World Championships.
