Ethan Thomason is the newest recruit to commit to play for BYU football (Class of 2023).  He announced his commitment yesterday, as reported on Twitter:

Thomason is a 6-foot-8 315 pound offensive lineman that preps at Rocky Mountain High School (Fort Collins, Colorado), where as a junior he was selected to the Colorado All-State second-team and was first-team All-Conference (MaxPreps). Thomason has also been playing varsity basketball since his freshman year.

Thomason committed to BYU a couple days after BYU’s victory over future conference mate, no. 9 ranked Baylor.  When asked why he committed to BYU, Thomason told Total Blue Sports:

“For me BYU checks every box for what I was looking for in a college football program. When I had the opportunity to tell Coach Sitake in person before the Baylor game that I was committing to him it was obvious to me that I made the right choice by his reaction. I could feel his love for me and what my commitment meant to him.

I chose BYU because of Coach Sitake and the incredible culture he has built there. I also built a strong relationship with Coach Funk over the past year and I truly believe that the development I can get from BYU will give me the best opportunity to become the best player I can be. While also being in an environment that fits me perfectly. I’m so thankful the place like BYU exists where we can play high-level P5 football AND attend a world-class university that encourages its students to live their lives to a higher standard.

I know for sure that BYU is where I was meant to be after a lot of studying it out in my mind and prayer. It was still a hard decision to turn down the school like Stanford because logically it didn’t make sense to me why I wouldn’t go there. But whenever I thought about going to Stanford there was just some thing missing and I realized that it was just that one missing piece that BYU has …which is that BYU feels like home.”

Thomason is rated 3-stars by 247Sports (0.8719), who rate him the no. 5 overall prospect from the state of Colorado for the Class of 2023. He holds 17 P5 scholarship offers including Arizona State, BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Utah, Vanderbilt, Virginia, and Washington State. Thomason committed to BYU on September 14, 2022.

Thomason is the 15th commit for the BYU football Class of 2023.
