BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU?
Erickson: BYU has always been the school I watched, and suiting up to be a Cougar has always been a dream. I’ve always been a cougar fan and having the chance to come here is one I couldn’t let pass by. Also, the Pro-style offense that BYU runs is great for being a tight end.
BYU Insider: What other schools were showing you the most love in the recruiting process?
Erickson: Navy and Utah State
BYU Insider: What are some of your favorites?
Erickson: I love all kinds of music with my favorite artist being Dan + Shay 6
BYU Insider: What is one of your greatest accomplishments?
Erickson: Being on the Kahuku basketball team that won Kahuku’s first state title
BYU Insider: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Erickson: At my very first football practice I was complaining that my helmet was hurting my head. I called my dad and told him I didn’t want to play football anymore. He asked if I wanted to quit and when I told him “yes” he said something like “I don’t know what you used to do, but with me you don’t quit. So stop complaining.” If I had quit on that day I’d never be where I am today.
BYU Insider:Â Who is a current player that you seek to emulate on the field?
Erickson: Jason Witten (retired tight end for the Dallas Cowboys)
BYU Insider:Â Anything else you want Cougarfans to know?
Erickson: I will give my whole heart and all my effort at every opportunity I have in order to help the team succeed
