BYU Basketball Prospect: Eric Monroe (Class of 2016)

Update:  Eric announced via Twitter on August 4, 2015 that he had committed to Yale University.

Eric Monroe has recently come onto BYU’s radar as a 2016 point guard prospect for the men’s basketball team.

eric_monroe_hsWhile he might not currently pass the eye test, he started for the #3 High School team in the country as a freshman and has shown consistent improvement each season since. As a sophomore he was named to the Full-Times Hoops sophomore second team and the All-CIF second team. His junior year he led the Saintsmen in assists (9.2 apg) and steals and was second in points (12.8 ppg) and was named to the All-Western League first-team and the CIF first team. He currently holds scholarship offers from Brown, Colgate, and Yale and has seen interest from UC-Davis, Grand Canyon, San Diego, Loyola (MD), Penn, Cornell, Bucknell, Lehigh, Davidson, American, and Eastern Washington. ESPN gives him 3 stars and grades him at 70 with a position rank of 55, regional rank of 63, and state rank of 42. Scout also gives him 3 stars.
