
Emmanuel Waller (Class of 2023) is the newest recruit to commit to play for BYU football. He announced his commitment yesterday, as reported on Twitter:

Waller is a 6-foot-4 240-pound defensive lineman that preps at Chelsea High School (Chelsea, Alabama), where as a junior he had 66 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, four sacks, 12 quarterback pressures, one blocked kick, and a forced fumble. He was an All-South metro honorable mention (Hoover Sun).
Waller also competes in the shot put and discus for the Chelsea track and field team, and he placed third in shot at the Shelby County HS championships his sophomore season (Athletic.net). His HUDL profile shows that he runs a 4.7 forty, can bench 355, and squat 450.
Waller is rated 4-stars by Rivals (5.8), who have him as the no. 19 recruit from Alabama and the no. 196 rated recruit nationally. He is rated 3-stars by 247Sports (0.8808), who rate him the no. 24 overall recruit from Alabama for the class of 2023, and the no. 427 overall all recruit nationally.
Waller holds scholarship offers from Duke, Indiana, Jacksonville State, Memphis, Mississippi State, Troy, Tulane, UAB, Wake Forest, and West Virginia (247Sports). He has also seen recruiting interest from Coastal Carolina, Jackson State, Kentucky, Louisiana, Marshall, Missouri, Notre Dame, UCF, USC, Vanderbilt, and Virginia Tech.
I caught up with Waller to ask him about his recruiting.
BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU?
Waller: Because ultimately being a member of the church and the experience and feeling I had out there was amazing.
BYU Insider: What other schools were showing you love in the recruiting process?
Waller: UAB, Mississippi State, Wake Forest, and Indiana
BYU Insider: What are some of your favorites?
Waller: Rod Wave (rapper) is the realist out.
BYU Insider: What are some of your accomplishments?
Waller: Being able to commit to a school like BYU is an accomplishment, and I can’t wait to get there! In life, I’d say always putting God first in everything I do. I still have a lot to work on, but don’t we all?
BYU Insider: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Waller: Pray, and God will take you where you need to be.
BYU Insider: Who is a current player that you seek to emulate on the field?
Waller: Matthew Judon (linebacker for the Patriots) and JJ Watt (defensive end for the Cardinals)
