New Commit: Rice transfer RB Emmanuel Esukpa (Class of 2020)

Emmanuel Esukpa announced Tuesday that he will be joining the BYU football program (Class of 2020) as a graduate transfer from Rice:

Esukpa has spent the last three seasons at Rice University and will graduate this spring.  As a junior he rushed 122 times for 461 yards and three touchdowns.  In his sophomore season (2017) he rushed 57 times for 261 yards and one touchdown and had three receptions for 37 yards. As a freshman (2016) Esukpa had 17 rushing attempts for 56 yards and two touchdowns, and a kickoff return of 16 yards.

Esukpa prepped at Mansfield Legacy high school (Mansfield, TX) where he played running back and defensive end.  As a senior he carried the ball 22 times for 96 yards and a touchdown.  On the track and field team he ran a 10.72 in the 100 meters and a 22.8 in the 200m. He was rated a 3-star prospect by ESPN and 2-star prospect by 247Sports and Rivals when he committed to Rice in 2014.

Esukpa was recruited to Rice by current BYU running back coach AJ Steward. As a graduate transfer he is immediately eligible to play one season as a redshirt senior.
