Getting to know new BYU commit, WR Collin Reid (Class of 2018)

BYU football added a deep threat with the addition of Spanish Fork wide receiver Collin Reid, who made a commitment to play for the Cougs as part of the Class of 2018.

Reid preps at Maple Mountain High School (Spanish Fork, Utah), where in eight games as a senior he hauled in 17 receptions for 482 yards for 28.4 yards per catch, with four touchdowns. He also returned 12 kickoffs for 410 yards (34.2 avg).  A legitimate deep threat, he runs a 4.4 forty and a 10.8 100 meter dash.  He also plays on the baseball team.  Reid was named to the All-Region team as the “Outstanding Special Teams” player, rated as the #1 kick returner.

I caught up with Reid to ask him about his recruitment:

BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU?
Reid: I grew up watching Cougar football. BYU is the school of my dreams and the decision to commit wasn’t a challenge.

BYU Insider: What are some of your “favorites”?
Reid: Batman vs Superman—the best worst movie ever, my favorite book is the sealed portion of the gold plates (that I have yet to read). And I love to sing.

BYU Insider: What are some of your greatest accomplishments?
Reid: I had seven kickoff returns this year for touchdowns (three were called back due to penalties) and my track sprinting speed is top three in the state. I look forward to breaking my 7.03 PR in the 60 meter dash at the Simplot national meet this week #goals.

BYU Insider: What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Reid: My Grandpa Reid said “The only two things you need to do to go to the Celestial kingdom is to be nice, and pay your tithing.” Just be a good person.

BYU Insider: Who is a current player you seek to emulate on the field?
Reid: Odell Beckham Jr. (WR, New York Giants) is my go to guy when I want to study form and releases. He is not only fast, he does the homework to set up defenders for big time plays.
