Getting to know BYU commit, MLB Cade Hoke (Class of 2019)

Cade Hoke made a verbal commitment to BYU (Class of 2019) last November as his stellar senior season came to a close.

Hoke preps at North Allegheny High School (Wexford, PA), where as a senior he had 86 tackles (47 solo), 14 tackles for loss, two passes defended, a fumble recovery, and five sacks. He missed his entire junior season with a torn ACL and consequently flew under-the-radar as a recruit.  As a sophomore he was third on the team with 48 tackles, had 12 tackles for loss, seven sacks, a blocked punt, and rushed for 63 yards on six carries.

Hoke is the son of former NFL veteran and BYU defensive tackle Chris Hoke.  He plans to join the Cougars in 2021 following an LDS mission as a preferred walk-on.

I recently caught up with Hoke to ask him about his recruitment.

BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU?

Hoke: I chose BYU because I love the family-oriented mentality that the coaches bring.  I know that coming to BYU will not be easy. I chose it because with or without football BYU can set you up for a great future. BYU is a great fit for me because I love to compete and do challenging things and being here will push me to be better with people just like me.

BYU Insider: What is one of your greatest accomplishment in sports?

Hoke: Coming back from my ACL injury because it was such a tough process and I was so grateful to play after that and have the success that I had.

BYU Insider: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Hoke: My dad tells me if you think you can or you can’t you are right. A lot of things can be mental and how we talk to ourselves can play a huge factor into the result.

BYU Insider: Who is a current player (collegiate or pro) that you seek to emulate on the field?

Hoke: Luke Kuechly and Sean Lee because they play the game the right way and are so smart mentally that they make amazing plays.
