
In the final preseason weekend several Cougs made the most of their opportunities to play and had standout performances. But it wasn’t enough for many of them. The following are the summaries, snap counts, and stats for each of the 19 Cougars on NFL rosters during the preseason, as well as their current status. Players are listed alphabetically by last name.
Ezekiel Ansah (DE, Detroit, No. 94). Ansah did not play in Detroit’s 35-17 victory over Cleveland. Preseason Totals: Two games, three solo tackles, one tackle for loss, two quarterback hurries. He is expected to start for Detroit this season.
Algie Brown (FB, Kansas City, No. 30). Brown was listed as a substitute but did not play in Kansas City’s 33-21 victory over Green Bay. Preseason Totals: Two games, no stats. Was waived by the Chiefs on September 1st and is currently an unsigned free agent.
Michael Davis (CB, Los Angeles, No. 43). Davis started at cornerback in LA’s 23-21 victory over San Francisco. He recorded two solo tackles playing 23 defensive snaps (37%). Preseason Totals: Four games, nine solo tackles, two assisted tackles, one tackle for loss, one pass deflection. He is listed as the no. 2 cornerback on the depth charter for the Chargers week 1 game vs. Kansas City.
John Denney (LS, Miami, No. 92). Denny was held out of Miami’s 34-7 victory over Atlanta. Preseason Totals: Three games, no stats. He is listed as the sole long snapper on Miami’s depth chart and is expected to start Week 1.
Micah Hannemann (DB, L.A. Chargers, No. 35). Hannemann came in as a substitute in LA’s 23-21 victory over San Francisco. He recorded four solo tackles. Hannemann played 37 defensive snaps (60%) and four special teams snaps (17%). Preseason Totals: Four games, six solo tackles, one assisted tackle. He was waived by the Chargers on September 1st and is an unsigned free agent.
Taysom Hill (QB, New Orleans, No. 7). Hill was the starting QB in New Orlean’s 28-0 victory over L.A. He went 10-for-17 passing for 159 yards and a touchdown and added three rushes for 31 yards. Hill played 42 offensive snaps (65%). Preseason Totals: Three games, 36-for-49 passing for 365 yards, two interceptions, and two touchdown; 19 rushes for 161 yards, and two touchdowns; a two point conversion, three tackles, three fumbles. It was enough as Hill made the 53-man roster and is currently listed as the no. 3 quarterback.
Bronson Kaufusi (DE, Baltimore, No. 92). Kaufusi was a starting defensive end in the Raven’s 30-20 victory over Washington. He made the most of the opportunity recording 10 tackles (seven solo), had a 10 yard sack, two tackles for loss and two quarterback hurries. He played 74 defensive snaps (96%), with seven special teams snaps (24%). Preseason Totals: Five games, nine solo tackles, three assisted tackles, three tackle for loss, one pass deflection, three quarterback hurries, one fumble recovery, and one sack. Despite his monster game he was waived by Baltimore on September 1st. He was picked up by the New York Jets and added to their practice squad.
Tejan Koroma (C, Kansas City). After a promising summer was injured and waived prior to preseason.
Harvey Langi (LB, New England, No. 48). Langi did not play in New England’s 17-12 victory over New York. He suffered an internal laceration after a hit in the first week of the preseason sat the remainder of the preseason due to concerns with his kidney. He was waived by the Patriots on September 1st and is currently an unsigned free agent. It has been reported that the Patriots plan to sign him to their practice squad if he clears waivers.
Tomasi Laulile (DT, Indianapolis, No. 66). Laulile came in as a substitute in Indianapolis’s 27-26 victory over Cincinnati. In his best game of the preseason he recorded two solo tackles, one assisted tackle, one tackle for loss, one four yard sack and one quarterback hurry. He played 35 snaps on defense (44%) and six special teams snaps (21%). Preseason Totals: Three games, three solo tackles, two assisted tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hurry, one sack. Despite his great game he was waived September 1st by the Colts and is currently an unsigned free agent.
Dallin Leavitt (S, Oakland, No. 45). Leavitt started at safety in Oakland’s 30-19 victory over Seattle. He had another monster game with four solo tackles on defense with another three tackles on special teams, and one pass defended. Leavitt played 72 defensive snaps (90%) and 22 special teams snaps (71%).
Preseason Totals: Four games, 16 solo tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, one pass defended. Leavitt was waived by the Raiders on September 1st but added to their practice squad the next day.
Jordan Leslie (WR, Denver, No. 19). Leslie started at wide receiver in Denver’s 21-10 victory over Arizona. He had his best game of the preseason with five receptions (on five targets) for 70 yards and a touchdown, as well as a special teams tackle. Leslie played 31 offensive snaps (46%) and seven special teams snaps (29%). Preseason Totals: Four games, nine receptions for 110 yards, one touchdown, two tackles. Leslie was waived by the Broncos on September 1st and is currently an unsigned free agent.
Kai Nacua (S, Baltimore, No. 31). Nacua started at strong safety in the Raven’s 30-20 victory over Wasington. He recorded four solo tackles, two assisted tackles, a pass defended, and a 23-yard pick six. Nacua played all 77 snaps on defense (100%), with another 16 on special teams (55%).
Preseason Totals: Four games, 12 solo tackles, five assisted tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, one pass defended, one interception for a touchdown. Despite his monster final game Nacua was waived by the Ravens on August 31st and is currently an unsigned free agent.
Colby Pearson (WR, Atlanta, No. 84). Pearson was waived prior to Atlanta’s final preseason game. Preseason Totals: Two games, no stats. Pearson was waived by the Falcons on August 24th and is currently an unsigned free agent.
Daniel Sorensen (S, Kansas City, No. 49). Sorensen did not play in Kansas City’s final preseason game. He suffered a tibial plateau fracture in practice earlier in the preseason as well as an MCL injury and lateral meniscus tear in the knee. After undergoing surgery Sorensen is expected to miss at least the first part of the season before he is re-evaluated. Preseason Totals: Injured, no games played. Sorensen was placed on the injured reserve on September 2nd but is expected to be back on the field some time this season. He is in the second year of a four year contract with Kansas City.
Jonah Trinnaman (WR, New York, No. 9). Trinnaman was waived prior to New York’s final preseason game. Preseason totals: One game, no stats. Trinnaman was waived by the Jets on August 30th and is currently an unsigned free agent.
Kyle Van Noy (LB, New England, No. 53). Van Noy was held out of New England’s 17-12 victory over the New York Giants. Preseason Totals: Three games, five solo tackles, five assisted tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, one quarterback hurry. Van Noy is in the second and last year of his contract extension with the Patriots and is listed as the no. 1 linebacker on New England’s depth chart.
Fred Warner (LB, San Francisco, No. 48). Warner was held out of San Francisco’s final preseason game. Preseason Totals: Two games, six solo tackles, four assisted tackles, two tackles for loss, one fumble recovery. Warner is in the first year of a four-year contract with the 49ers and is currently listed at no.1 on the depth chart at the MIKE linebacker position.
De’Ondre Wesley (OT, Buffalo, No. 74). Wesley started at right tackle in Buffalo’s 28-27 victory over Chicago. He recorded his first NFL tackle on after an interception. Wesley played all 77 snaps with the offense (100%) and two special teams snaps (7%). Preseason Totals: Three games, no stats. Wesley was waived by the Bills on September 1st but re-signed the following day and added to the practice squad.
Jamaal Williams (RB, Green Bay, No. 30). Williams did not play in Green Bay’s final preseason game. Preseason Totals: Two games, seven carries for 18 yards, two receptions for 14 yards, one receiving touchdown. Williams is in the second year of a four-year contract with Green Bay and is listed as the no. 1 running back on the Packer’s depth chart.
