Getting to know new BYU commit, OL/DL Brigham Alexander (Class of 2022)

Brigham Alexander is the most recent commitment to the BYU football program (Class of 2022), announcing his commitment October 26, 2021 via Twitter:

Alexander is a 6-foot-7 310 pound lineman (tackle, nose guard) that preps at Benjamin Franklin High School (Queen Creek, Arizona).  Through his first four games as a senior he has eight tackles (five solo) with two tackles for loss and a sack (MaxPreps).  He also has a two yard touchdown carry on offense (a sneak).  HUDL shows that Alexander runs a 5.07 forty, has a 31-inch vertical, can bench 285 and squat 395 and that he was named to the All-4A Deseret Sky Region second team after his sophomore and junior seasons.

As a junior Alexander had 14 tackles (10 solo) with a safety and one tackle for loss.  He had 12 tackles as a sophomore and one tackle as a freshman.  Alexander has also participated in soccer, wrestling, and orchestra while at Benjamin Franklin and he maintains a 4.5 GPA with a 33 ACT score.  His grandfather played football at Utah State and in the CFL.

Alexander has not been rated but holds D1 offers from Clarke, Graceland, Lyon, Morehead State, Northern Arizona, Ottawa, and St. Thomas.  He has also seen recruiting interest from Arizona and Utah State.  Alexander has plans to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and will join the Cougars in 2024 as a preferred walk-on.

I caught up with Alexander to ask him about his recruiting.

BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU?

Alexander:  I’ve been a fan since I was little.  It’s our family’s school—I have three sisters there and my mom is an alumni.  It is a good fit for me because it has high academic rigor AND excellence in football.  The character oof the players and the way the coaches prepare them for real life is something I feel is important.

BYU Insider: What are some of your favorites?

Alexander:  I love Marvel and Star Wars films, but my favorite movie is Interstellar.  I like reading Brandon Sanderson books.  I eat anything I can get my hands on, but I especially love chocolate chip cookies, Pepsi, and Mexican food.  I play the cello, the bass, and guitar, and like listening to 80s music.

BYU Insider: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Alexander:  “Practice with a purpose!”

BYU Insider: Who is a current player that you seek to emulate on the field?

Alexander:  Brady Christensen (OL, Carolina Panthers)

BYU Insider: Is there anything else you’d like Cougarfans to know about you?

Alexander:  I’m so excited to play at the Y—this is something I’ve wanted since I was young.  And I have two “little” brothers who will probably be bigger than I am, so get ready!
