Getting to know BYU commit, 3-star DL Braxton Fely (Class of 2022)

Braxton Fely is a BYU football commit for the Class of 2022, making a verbal commitment on June 16, 2021. 

Fely is a 6-foot-2 260 pound defensive lineman that preps at Timpview High School (Orem, Utah).  As a junior he recorded 70 solo tackles, 13 tackles for loss, three sacks, six quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries (including one returned for a TD), and a blocked punt (MaxPreps). Fely was named to the All-Region and 5A All-State first teams. 

As a sophomore Fely had 31 solo tackles, seven tackles for loss, and three sacks.  He also competed in one game as a freshman and had .5 sack.  He can bench 405, squat 495, and clean 275 pounds (HUDL).

Fely is rated 3-stars by 247Sports (0.8254 composite) and is ranked then no. 19 overall prospect in Utah for the class of 2022. He has scholarship offers from Air Force, Army, Colorado State, Morgan State, Princeton, San Jose State, and Utah State (247, Rivals).  

I caught up with Fely to ask him about his recruiting.

BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU?

Fely:  Because the school is good and the team is good.  I can see myself playing on the team and I can fit in their defensive setup.

BYU Insider: What other schools were showing you love in the recruiting process?

Fely:  Utah State, Colorado State, and Air Force

BYU Insider: What are some of your favorites?

Fely:  My favorite movie is Pacific Rim, book series is Michael Vey, and cereal is Cinnamon Crunch.

BYU Insider: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Fely:  Listen to your parents because they know what is right for you.

BYU Insider: Who is a current player that you seek to emulate on the field?

Fely:  Aaron Donald (defensive tackle for the LA Rams)
