Smith preps at Paraclete High School (CA), where as a junior he carried the ball six times for 50 yards (8.3 ave), caught 14 passes for 354 yards (25.3 ave) and three touchdowns, and returned 13 kickoffs for 409 yards (31.5 ave) and a touchdown. On defense he recorded 20 tackles (14 solo) and had eight pass deflections.
Smith also starred for the track team, where he holds the school records in the 60 meters (7.04), 100 meters (10.67), 200 meters (21.57), and as part of the 4×100 relay (42.41) and 4×200 relay (1:31.00) teams. He has also run a hand-timed 4.35 forty (4.50 official). So how fast is he really? Todd Watkins–widely regarded as the fastest player to ever suit up for the Cougars–ran a 10.73 in the 100 meters during his senior season at BYU. BYU’s fastest player on the roster right now is probably Zayne Anderson, who ran a 10.61 in High School. You can see Smith’s speed for yourself in the highlight video posted at the bottom of the page.
