- 2021 (Freshman). Played in 13 games (13 starts) and led BYU with 102 tackles (57 solo) and 8.5 tackles for loss. Also had one quarterback hurry and a sack. Was named the Independent Rookie of the Year (Pro Football Network) and was selected to All-Independent First-Team (PFN)
- 2020 (COVID Freshman). Played in three games and recorded seven tackles (four solo).
- 2019 (Redshirt). Played in three games and recorded eight tackles
- 2017-2018 (LDS Mission). Guatemala City, Guatemala
High School. Bywater prepped at Olympus High School (Salt Lake City, Utah), where as a senior he rushed 133 times for 766 yards and nine touchdowns, caught 10 passes for 77 yards, and recorded 95 tackles (21 solo) with 10 tackles for loss, two passes defended, three forced fumbles, and one sack (MaxPreps). In his high school career he had 1,227 rushing yards (9.1 ypc), 21 touchdowns, two interceptions, and four sacks. He was team captain, Region 6 MVP, and a member of the Lions elite rugby club.
Recruitment. Bywater was rated 3-stars by 247Sports (0.8455), who rated him the no. 10 prospect from the state of Utah for the Class of 2017. He held scholarship offers from Air Force, BYU, Cornell, Fresno State, and Utah State. Bywater committed to BYU on June 21, 2016, signed on February 1, 2017, and enrolled on July 1, 2019.
