Jeremy DowDell is the most recent addition to the BYU basketball team, making his commitment known this week via Twitter:

DowDell preps at Olympus high (SLC, Utah) where as a senior he led the state with 29.6 points per game, to go along with 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals.   He shot 50%, with 43% beyond the arc and 90% at the line.  His 117 3-pointers as a senior and 307 career 3-pointers are both state records, the latter eclipsing the career mark set by Nick Emery at Lone Peak.  Check out his Jimmer range in the highlight video below.  A three-year starter at Olympus DowDell averaged 27.4 points as a junior and 22.6 points as a sophomore.

DowDell has not yet been rated by 247 Sports. He holds scholarship offers from Air Force, Dixie State, and Washington State. He also saw recruiting interest from Boise State, Memphis, New Mexico, Penn, Pepperdine, Rice, South Carolina State, Stanford, Utah, Utah State, and Washington.  He will join the Cougs as a preferred walk-on in 2021-22 after returning from an LDS mission to Argentina.

I caught up with DowDell to ask him about the recruiting process:

BYU Insider: Why did you choose BYU?

DowDell: I chose BYU because of the coaching staff, the amazing fan base, and my dream to always play for BYU.  I really feel like I can come in and make an impact, make shots, and help win games for this team.

BYU Insider: What other schools were showing you love in the recruiting process?

DowDell: Dixie State, Air Force, Boise State, South Carolina State, Penn, Washington State, Stanford, Washington, Memphis, Utah, Utah State, Pepperdine, New Mexico, and Rice.

BYU Insider: What are some of your favorites?

DowDell: Glory Road (movie), R&B and hip hop, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Mexican food. I also love Drake, Travis Scott, J Cole, Gunna, The Weeknd, JhenΓ© Aiko, Swae Lee, 6lack, and Alicia Keys.

BYU Insider: What is your greatest accomplishment in sports? In life?

DowDell: In sports it was going 27-0 and winning the state championship my junior year. In life it is being raised in a good family by such good parents who have taught me to have high values and morals.

BYU Insider: Who is a player (collegiate or pro) that you seek to emulate on the court?

DowDell: JJ Redick is a guy I’ve always looked to because he’s a shooter my size who, like myself, is fearless, always moving to get open, shoots 3s and makes shots.
