Gavin Baxter is a 6’9″, 195 lb. forward who signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at BYU (Class of 2016) on November 11, 2015.

He currently preps at Timpview High School in Provo, Utah.  As a High School sophomore (2014) he averaged 11.4 points and 6.2 rebounds and was named to Utah’s 4A Third Team (Deseret News). As a junior he averaged 15.5 points and 9.9 rebounds and was named to the 4A second-team all-state (Deseret News). Both parents are former BYU athletes. His father played basketball for the Cougs and his mother was a record breaking track star. His sister is currently on the track team at BYU.

Baxter is rated 4-stars by Rivals, Scout, and ESPN (grade of 80).  Scout ranked him No. 69 nationally (and #1 PF in Utah) while Rivals listed him as the No. 63 ranked recruit, and ESPN has him No. 24 nationally for small forwards. He holds scholarship offers from ASU, BYU, UCLA, and USU.  He was also recruited by Arizona, ASU, Cal, Gonzaga, Oregon, OSU, Southern Utah, Stanford, Utah, and Wake Forest.  In March 2014 he stated in an interview that “I like Arizona… but I’ll probably end up at BYU.” In December 2014 he reiterated that BYU and ASU were his top two choices.  Baxter committed to the Cougs on June 8, 2015.  He has stated he plans to serve an LDS mission directly out of high school.
