BYU Insider and Twitter get punkd by North Carolina PG Antonio Daye Jr.

Antonio Daye Jr. announced via Twitter that he was offered a scholarship to play for BYU’s Class of 2018 (his third offer overall).

daye_antonio_150pxApparently, this is not the case.  BYU has not extended an offer to Daye, nor is there any connection between him and the program.  This appears to be a twitter hoax, and I truly apologize for having posted news of this non-story.

Daye is a 6-foot-2 190 pound point guard who will be a junior at Southern High School in Durham, North Carolina this fall.  Daye played as a freshman in 2014 and averaged 4.8 points, 1.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 0.9 steals per game. As a sophomore last season he played in 26 games and averaged 14.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and a remarkable 3.0 steals per game. He is listed as a 2018 All-Star by AllStarPreps.com, and is rated the No. 27 prospect in North Carolina by the Phenom Hoop Report.

Daye has not yet been rated by Rivals, Scout, or ESPN but he has received two scholarship offers already: from Temple and Abilene Christian. Daye has no outside connection to BYU but would be a valuable defender and nice compliment to the current 2018 roster.
